1. You’ll arrive at The Potato Shed 5 minutes before your scheduled audition time, take a right as you walk in & auditions will be in the first door on your right (Multi Purpose Room), please make a seat on the benches next to the door.
2. At your scheduled time a member of the directing team will come out to get you & collect your audition form. While we prefer it just be you come in, a parent/guardian can come in to support & sit quietly in the corner.
3. Once inside the team will give you a chance to introduce yourself & say which character you would like to be.
4. You’ll then be asked to read/act your prepared lines, while we would prefer you to memorise the lines, a script can be used if needed. You will read your character lines while a director reads the other lines.
5. After this you may be asked to read lines of another character and about your second preference.
6. Your vocal component will come next, the directing team will have your backing track ready if requested at the start of the audition & wait until you are ready.
7. The dance component is the last main audition piece, please look at the video provided and try your best to learn the dance.
8. The hard part is over! The directing team may have other questions & give you a chance to ask any questions you may have about the group, performance or anything else.
9. Your audition is done. Congratulations! A member of the directing team will walk you out to your parent/guardian.

Each audition will last a maximum of 10 minutes.
We all forget things & make mistakes, even as adults. If needed take a few seconds to calm down & reset, always remember while it’s better to memorise your lines, if you forget you can quickly look to get your groove back. Sometimes even our director who will read the other characters lines makes mistakes!
Unfortunately, due to time constraints we ask that you only prepare, rehearse and audition with your first preference, the directing team will take into consideration other roles you requested on your audition form or mentioned during the audition.
Want to be even more prepared than just learning your lines? Try watching videos of Oliver/Oliver Jr on YouTube & practice your British accent (look at which character you are auditioning for as there any many different accents in the show with the main being Cockney and Posh London accents)
It’s ok to be nervous, before your audition take some time to relax, take some deep breaths & if it helps re-read your lines.
The directing team is made up of teachers & past performers who are there to support you. If you do need support to help with your nerves during your audition, you can bring a parent/guardian in, but they must be quiet & we want you to answer any questions we might have.
If you are nervous and need help before your audition, please let us know as we do have members of the team who are trained in mental health, mindfulness & meditation who can help.
